The whole idea of the Golden Oldies is to allow those who are too old for the sport they used to play and to participate in the same sport without fear of injury. For instance, rules include no contact on people over 55 years old and no pushing in scrums. Further rules are worked out prior to the game by both team captains. Each game lasts for 60 minutes and is made up of 3 x 20-minute spells, with unlimited replacement players.
The New York Vintage Whines is made up on men and women from New York, Boston, Seattle, Australia, Canada, and England. The spirit of Golden Oldies, epitomized in the motto of Fun, Friendship, and Fraternity. This is the central theme of every Golden Oldies Festival.
